Can a Healthy Lifestyle be Controlled by Your Smartphone?
It seems millennials are stereotypically always connected
via some sort of device. Often referred to as the “C Generation” or “Connected
Generation” according to an article on Forbes by Andrew Arnold. With the title
of being a connected generation, millennials also get the title of being the
most stressed generation and with stress comes the possibility of sickness. No
one like being sick and no one likes going to the doctor and according to
Arnold, millennials just don’t go even if they do get sick. Allow me to
explain.
Some stats used in the article claim searching for a blog
about living a healthy lifestyle will bring up over 4 million results. Obviously,
there is a community developing online filled with questions and answers in a
variety of different areas. There isn’t always going to be truth to every
answer on the internet but for the most part, this community of millennials trusts
each other. And said trust, according to Arnold, goes farther with millennials
online than it does with manufacturers or institutions such as hospitals or
other medical facilities.
With the ever-increasing trend of healthy living and being
fit/active, there have been countless apps and programs accessible from our
smartphones, tablets or laptops. This allows us to be connected and learn more
than ever before able illness, fitness and an everyday lifestyle we can adapt
to make us healthy and keep us in shape.
As millennials, Arnold says, we love our freedom and we love
our technology so it’s the best of both worlds when we can use our technology
to keep away from the doctors and better ourselves from home. But it’s not just
technology we are addicted to. We also like everything to be “natural” and “organic”
so natural remedies such as acupuncture, meditation, and physical exercise according
to the article instead of pharmaceuticals.
The concern for a healthy environment has shaped and changed
how we live today. Whether you are a millennial or not, your world has most likely
been changed to fit this tech crazed, health nut, natural society. It is crazy
to see how far technology has come and what it has accomplished throughout the
years in terms of health and ease of access to everything we need. It has also
rendered medicine and manufactured pharmaceuticals as a bad thing as we return to
older ways of using natural remedies. As technology increases, we return to
simple basic strategies of healing from years ago and are now becoming all the
rage.
I think there are a lot of pros and cons to social media and I definitely think our generation has shown that. It is nice to constantly be connected to others through a smart phone are virtually all times. However, I think it does have an effect on health because often times we might decide to stay indoors with our technology rather than go outside or be active. It's nice there are so many apps and commercials and stuff that encourage being active lately and I think tying that stuff into social media and our smart devices, we will start to see a positive change. Technology is ever changing and advancing and I think it can only get more helpful from here, regardless of the associated cons it brings.
ReplyDeleteI think the amount of information we have at our fingertips is great, however I don't think we should trust some random persons blog more than a medical professional who went to school for many years. All the years of medical school and training can not fit into one blog so if people have a serious ailment I think it is important to go to the doctor.
